PALI (Performance and lifestyle institute) had their annual fashion show with a twist…of lemon! There was nothing normal (what is normal anyway) or predictable about the evening. Everything was unexpected and refreshingly unconventional. The venue was not a hall or hotel but a barn, a Big Red Barn. The backstage was upstairs and the Master of ceremonies was a Mistress of Fun, The lovely RowLene, who lined up each next act with a laugh. Apart from studying at PALI she is also a vlogger. None of the models walked one step, but instead they danced and strutted. The evening didn’t start with bright lights, but with a darkened room with spectacular Neon drums, from Hans Drommedaris. They stunned the audience with their toe-tapping songs and it was evident they loved every moment of it.
Everything was explosively exciting from start to finish, a feast for the senses.
On arrival we walked the red carpet following behind Carin and André Retief. We later saw that they were there supporting their daughter Danielle Retief. Those were not the only celebrities. When we sat down we sat in front of Fred and Wilma Flintstone and across from us, some pirates and princess Elsa, who joined us in dressing up. In all seriousness there were quite a few familiar faces (as seen on tv) and the rest are well on their way to joining their ranks. There were actors from 7de Laan, Egoli, Agter Elke Man and the like. There were also new up and coming stars like Rikus Strauss, Tjattas from 7de Laan.
The second years were judged by Anika Badenhorst, Jean Pierre van Vuuren and Heidi Bosman du Toit, for their designs. They all chose a movie as inspiration for their designs to fit in with the theme for the evening.
Zandile Mazibuko, Natasha van Deventer, Millie Dintoe, Liza du Plessis were some of the beauties parading on the dance floor.
There were Steamy Steampunk Steps, Duelling Double 07 Duos and Not so Prim and Proper Princesses, but also Elegant Waltzes and Tangos, and even Jumpy 20’s and 70’s. Each item a production of perfectly rehearsed choreography (by Mareza Snyman), a gripping storyline with characters playing their part and the clothes to match.
Do yourself a favour and like their Facebook page, PALI, they are very actively sharing all the exciting new things they are busy with.

Shareen Swart, was also there to support her daughter, Hankah Ras. Shareen, Pali-Founder and mentor, has left an inspirational impact on many and will be sorely missed... our condolences to family and friends.
