On Saturday 7 March myself and ''Inspirasie-Hasie'' set off on the Addo Elephant Trail Ultra with a message on our hearts...
I had this preconceived idea of how I wanted our Mascot to symbolize faith in this race. The unconditional faith like our Creator has in us and people have in us. In my heart, I’ve just been very grateful for the people that consistently kept on believing in me throughout my life. I made so many mistakes in my life, second, third, fourth, fifth and they keep counting chances and still, people stood by me. I want to be more like that, we should try to be more like that because we all need and deserve it.
On race day the Hell rose up through the earth in the Addo national park with temperatures peaking at a scary 55 degree during midday. Not great for running but the perfect conditions for people to test themselves to the extreme.
I asked beforehand that I will be open to the experience as every endurance race is somewhat of a spiritual stirring experience to me. But on the day it was so hot I went into survival mode and just thought about finishing my race. Roughly midday we hiked up a hill with the sun in bursting force and came past gentlemen from America and Botswana sitting next to the road. At the time I didn’t know that they were having a serious debate about calling their race and little did I know that this would be my special moment of insight from the ADDO race.
We asked each other how things are, that it was HOT etc. and at this point, I dished out a motivational speech that was enough for both of them to get up, push through and ultimately finish their races. This quote is so powerful that it will break the internet and, for safety reasons, will be withheld from this report.
Looking back I now know that God used me at that moment in His perfect way.
I can only keep on trying to stay faithful to my heart and more or less just live life.
