My name is Allen Calvin Melite, I am 22 years old and I matriculated in 2014 at De Kruine High School.
I currently live with my grandfather and cousins. I was raised by my grandparents who always played a big part in my life. I love my family very much, they mean the world to me. I have two sisters who look up to me as their oldest brother and I will always try to give them my best.
I am from a small energy community called Touws River. The community has a population of about 8000 people. Touws River has a low employment rate and a community involved with the SE.ED programmes (Work experience programmes, Bursary programmes and Enterprise Development programmes) implemented by Knowledge Pele.
In 2015 I applied at Boland College to study Human Resource Management, but I didn’t finish my studies. July 2015 I started working at our clinic in Touws River as a Human Resource Management Development Intern was till April 2016. In June 2016 I got a call from Knowledge Pele that informed me they had a Host Company and I was invited to go to Johannesburg to work in the Human Resources Department. Unfortunately, in February 2017 I had to return to Touws River to be with my grandfather.
Circumstances were not always the best at home but my grandparents raised me the best that they could. After my grandmother passed away things were not good at home, but this didn't stop my grandfather from still giving his all to his grandchildren and his children so that they can do their best in life.
I’ve been unemployed for almost 1 year now, but it is not my unemployment that is important it is my people that are important to me. Working freelance for companies has made me realize that is not about the money, it is about the change in someones life. Firstly, I work with people that has become my family and it is so amazing because they understand me for who I am and what I do. Every day I get a call just to tell me that I must have a wonderful day.
Family is the single most important influence in a child’s life. From their first moments of life, children depend on parents and family to protect them and provide for their needs. Parents and family form a child’s first relationships. Family can be divided into close family and extended family. Your close family includes spouses, parents and siblings, whilst an extended family can include in-laws, uncles, aunts, cousins and so on.
Though, in a strict sense, we often think of family as either biological, ‘unclear’ families, consisting of two parents and their children or extended family discussed above. However, there are many formats that a family can take - things don’t always turn out the way we hope or plan. All that truly matters is that people who consider each other to be family, love each other and take care of each other.
Additionally, several people consider their friends to be their ‘real’ family as these are the people that they turn to when in need. Families are, after all, pretty flexible: children and adults can be adopted into the family and seen as part of the family for a variety of reasons. The word ‘family’ can be traced back to the Latin word ‘familia’. This word referred to an entire household: not just the parents and children who formed the traditional family back then but also the household servants.
We as the Melite family always stick together, "MY LOSS IS YOURS" and "YOUR LOSS IS MINE". That is what family is all about.
